Bobby and Sonny, the Osborne Brothers' 1972 Decca release (DL 5356), was recorded between 1970 and 1972 at Bradley's Barn in Mount Juliet, Tennessee with a full Nashville session lineup — Leon Rhodes and Ray Edenton on guitars, Hal Rugg and Weldon Myrick on steel, drums by Willie Ackerman, and Hargus "Pig" Robbins on piano — supporting Bobby's mandolin and Sonny's banjo. The production is the polished country style the brothers had been refining since Rocky Top, but the high-trio harmony and the unmistakable Osborne sound remain at the center of every track. The album represents the Decca-MCA transition moment for the brothers, who would shortly leave the major-label system for the independents that defined their later career.
