Carter Stanley's Eyes is a 2018 album by Peter Rowan, the guitarist and singer who came of age musically as a member of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys in the 1960s before moving through a career that touched rock, country, Latin, and Hawaiian music. The album title invokes Carter Stanley, whose voice defined one entire strand of bluegrass feeling — mournful, deep, and rooted in the mountains. Rowan's tribute is personal: he knew the music that Stanley made and has spent a career in conversation with it. The record reflects Rowan's mature synthesis, drawing on the emotional vocabulary of the Stanley Brothers while placing it in the context of a long life's worth of musical experience.
