Country Songs and Tunes with Autoharp is a 1969 Folkways Records album (FA 2368) by Kilby Snow (1905–1980), the Grayson County, Virginia–born autoharp virtuoso who transformed the instrument's technique and vocabulary. Snow — largely self-taught and left-handed — developed the "drag note" technique that gave the autoharp a melodic-lead capability it had not previously possessed, effectively laying the foundation for modern autoharp playing. Brought to wider attention by Mike Seeger during the 1960s folk revival, Snow recorded this primary solo document for Moe Asch's Folkways label. The album presents traditional Appalachian songs and fiddle tunes arranged for autoharp in Snow's singular style, preserving music rooted in the pre-commercial mountain traditions of southwestern Virginia.
