I've Got That Old Feeling, released in 1990 on Rounder Records, is the album that announced Alison Krauss as a generational talent and earned her the first of the many Grammy Awards that would define her career. Krauss was nineteen years old when the album appeared, already a fiddle contest champion from Champaign, Illinois, and the recording made clear that her singing was the more remarkable gift: a soprano of unusual purity and emotional directness. 'Steel Rails' became the album's signature song, a Gary Nicholson and Jimmy Mattingly composition that suited Krauss's voice perfectly. The album remains one of the decade's essential bluegrass records.
