Kentucky Blue Grass, released by Decca on June 29, 1970, is the eighth studio album credited to Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys — though it functions more as a session-leftover compilation than a sustained studio statement, drawing its eleven tracks from recordings made at various points between February 1964 and April 1969. Nine of the eleven were previously unreleased; two had appeared earlier as single sides. The selection includes I Live in the Past, Cripple Creek, and Last Old Dollar, ranging across the working-band moments of the mid-1960s Blue Grass Boys. Decca was using the LP format to clear its backlog of Monroe sessions while the man himself moved toward the second half of his recording career.
