The Bluegrass Touch (Vetco Records LP 3017, 1973) is a studio album from Earl Taylor and the Stoney Mountain Boys, recorded February 27, 1969, at Lange's Recording Studio in Azusa, California, and released four years later on the Ohio-based Vetco label. Taylor plays mandolin and sings; Sandy Rothman plays banjo; Jack Carter plays fiddle; Charlie Hoskins plays guitar; and Vernon "Boatwhistle" McIntyre holds the string bass. Taylor, a Maryland-born mandolinist who led the Stoney Mountain Boys to a major-label deal at United Artists in the early 1960s, brought the ensemble's traditional approach to this California session, with Rothman — later associated with Jerry Garcia and the Bay Area acoustic scene — in the banjo chair. The album was reissued on Crosscut Records and reviewed in Bluegrass Unlimited in March 1974.
