Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Vol. III is a 2002 double album released by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on Capitol Records (7243-5-40177-0-4), thirty years after the landmark 1972 original. The band—Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, Jimmy Ibbotson, and John McEuen—assembled an expansive roster of guests spanning generations: Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Doc Watson, and Earl Scruggs represented the elders; Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs, Sam Bush, Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas, and Del McCoury represented the contemporary bluegrass world. The result honors the original Circle's spirit of cross-generational dialogue while affirming the vitality of American roots music at the dawn of a new century.
