Wondrous Love, released in 2003 on Rounder Records, is Blue Highway's gospel project, a set of sacred songs performed with the full weight of a band that had spent its career building harmonic precision. The choice of the traditional shape-note hymn 'Wondrous Love' as the album's centerpiece was deliberate and telling: the song's ancient melody and stark theological text represent the oldest layer of Anglo-American sacred music, older than bluegrass itself, and Blue Highway's approach honors that antiquity without making it feel archival. Tim Stafford and Wayne Taylor anchored the vocal arrangements with the low-end authority their voices commanded.
