Earl Gray
Earl “J.T.” Gray was an American bluegrass bassist and venue owner, long the proprietor of the Station Inn, the celebrated bluegrass club in Nashville.
- Born in 1946 in Corinth, Mississippi, he moved to Nashville in 1971.
- Played bass in Jimmy Martin's Sunny Mountain Boys from 1979 to 1981 and appeared on the album “First Time Together” by Jimmy Martin and Ralph Stanley.
- Bought the Station Inn in 1981 and ran the club for four decades, making it a home for bluegrass in Nashville.
- Received an IBMA Distinguished Achievement Award in 2003.
- Was inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2020.
- Died in 2021.
