Michael Gregory
Michael Gregory is a Midwestern bluegrass bassist whose late-1970s J.D. Crowe seat with Keith Whitley, decades of regional sideman work, and current chairs in Blue Mafia and Midnight River have made him one of the most-credited rhythm players of the Cincinnati / central-Indiana bluegrass scene.
- Bassist and original member of Blue Mafia (joined at the 2011 founding).
- Came to Blue Mafia with many years of bluegrass experience; described by bandmates as "an absolute timing monster."
- Played bass in J.D. Crowe's band in the late 1970s, performing alongside Keith Whitley.
- Long sideman résumé includes Killin' Tyme, Next Generation, Cumberland Gap, Briar Hoppers, James Monroe, Blue Calling, All American Bluegrass Band, Loadstone, Lifeboat Quartet, and Bluetown.
- Currently also plays in Midnight River, a bluegrass band based out of southwestern Ohio and central Indiana.
- Recorded on Blue Mafia's Pinecastle releases including "Hanging Tree," "My Cold Heart" (2013), and "Pray For Rain" (2015).
