Act 3 cover

Act 3 is a 2005 reissue compiling material from the Seldom Scene's third studio album, originally released on Rebel Records in 1974. The Seldom Scene occupied a singular position in bluegrass history from their founding in 1971: a part-time band of Washington-area professionals who approached the music with formidable skill and a deliberate openness to contemporary songwriting. Act 3 continued their practice of pulling material from the full spectrum of American song, demonstrated here by 'Little Georgia Rose,' the Bill Monroe composition that became one of their signature pieces. Duffey's tenor and Auldridge's Dobro remained the sonic signatures that made the Scene immediately recognizable in an era when bluegrass audiences were hungry for sophisticated, unhurried playing.
