American Favorite Ballads, Vol. 3 was released by Folkways Records in 1959 (Folkways FA 2322). It is the third LP in the American Favorite Ballads series Pete Seeger made for Moses Asch’s label: Vol. 1 appeared in December 1957 and Vol. 2 in 1958, and Vols. 4 and 5 followed in 1961 and 1962.

Seeger sings and is credited with five-string banjo and twelve-string guitar. The sixteen tracks include “John Brown’s Body,” “The Girl I Left Behind,” “Oh, Mary Don’t You Weep,” “St. Louis Blues,” “Clementine,” “Dink’s Song,” “New River Train,” “Swanee River,” “Camptown Races,” “Goodnight Irene,” “Wimoweh” and “The Farmer’s Curst Wife.” Ed Badeaux supplied the commentary, Ronald Clyne designed the sleeve and David Gahr took the photograph.
