Bringing Mary Home cover

Bringing Mary Home was released in 1966 on Rebel (REB 1478). Most of it was recorded at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, between 23 and 25 February 1965, with Charlie Waller on guitar, Eddie Adcock on banjo, John Duffey on mandolin and Ed Ferris on bass. Tom Gray, the band’s bassist in its earlier years, had left in 1964. “Brown Mountain Light,” with the same four players, comes from an earlier session at Wynwood Music Studios in Falls Church, Virginia, in June 1964.

The title song is credited to Duffey, Mank and Kingston; Duffey sings the lead on it, with Waller leading the chorus and Adcock on baritone. Duffey also sings lead on “This World’s No Place to Live,” credited to Duffey and Hill, with Waller and Adcock on harmony. Bob Dylan’s “Girl From the North Country” is also on the album. Three tracks are instrumentals: “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “Northbound,” both credited to Duffey and Adcock, and “Spanish Two Step,” credited to Waller. “Brown Mountain Light,” credited to Duffey and Waller, has Waller on lead vocal.
