The Don Reno Story, originally a 1976 CMH double LP and reissued digitally in 2023 (CMH 9003), is a career retrospective Don Reno recorded with longtime partner Bill Harrell and the Tennessee Cut-Ups, re-cutting Reno classics for an extended overview of his work. Reno plays banjo and sings; Harrell handles guitar and lead vocals; the supporting cast includes Buck Ryan on fiddle and Ed Ferris on bass, with son Dale Reno also in the band. The set ranges across gospel ("The Lord's Last Supper," "I'm Using My Bible for a Roadmap") and barn-burner instrumentals ("Little Rock Getaway," "Dixie Breakdown"). Cut a decade into the Reno-Harrell partnership formed after the 1964 Reno and Smiley split, the album also showcases Reno's trademark two-finger single-string banjo style.
