Clarence White and the Kentucky Colonels was issued on vinyl by Rounder (0098) in 1980. Russ Barenberg edited the album and wrote the liner notes, Joseph Robins produced it, and the credits note that the musician details came courtesy of Roland White. The Bluegrass Discography’s track-by-track credits show that it draws on more than one lineup of the band. On “Alabama Jubilee,” “I Am a Pilgrim,” “Billy in the Low Ground,” “Footprints in the Snow” and “Wildwood Flower,” Clarence White on guitar is joined by Billy Ray Latham on banjo, Roland White on mandolin and Roger Bush on bass. On the second side, including “Prisoner’s Song,” “Good Woman’s Love,” “White-Washed Chimney” and “Teardrops in My Eyes,” the banjo is Bob Worford and the bass is Eric White, a brother of Clarence and Roland. “When You’re Smiling” lists only Clarence on guitar.
Roland White sings lead on “Footprints in the Snow,” “Prisoner’s Song” and “Teardrops in My Eyes,” Roger Bush leads “I Am a Pilgrim,” and Clarence sings lead on “Good Woman’s Love.” The Kentucky Colonels took that name in September 1962, and the original lineup broke up after a show on 31 October 1965. Clarence White died on 15 July 1973.
