This Train cover

This Train, released in 2003, is a gospel-oriented project from the Wayfaring Strangers whose name announces their allegiance to the sacred folk tradition that runs alongside and beneath bluegrass proper. The Wayfaring Strangers approached this material without the slick production choices that often flattened sacred bluegrass in the contemporary market, favoring instead the spare harmonies and unadorned instrumental work that kept the focus on the songs themselves. Gospel has always been inseparable from bluegrass — Bill Monroe built his sound partly on the shaped-note singing tradition — and This Train sits comfortably in that lineage.
