Yesterday and Today Vol. 2 by The Country Gentlemen, released on Vanguard in 1973, documents the band in a transitional period following the departure of several key members from the classic lineup. By this point, Charlie Waller was holding the band together as the one consistent presence, with a new cast around him. The Vanguard recordings reached a broader audience than the band's earlier Rebel releases, and the series as a whole helped sustain the Gentlemen's reputation during a decade of considerable personnel flux. The album maintains the band's commitment to musical diversity and vocal polish, even as it reflects a different chemistry than the celebrated early records.
