Cliff Waldron
Cliff Waldron is an American bluegrass singer and guitarist, a figure in the late-1960s Washington, D.C., bluegrass scene whose band helped open bluegrass to contemporary folk and pop material.
- Born in 1941 and raised on a farm in West Virginia, he moved to the Washington, D.C., area in the early 1960s.
- Formed a partnership with banjoist Bill Emerson, recording the album “New Shades of Grass” in 1968.
- Led the band Cliff Waldron and the New Shades of Grass, known for adapting folk and popular songs to the bluegrass form.
- Several musicians associated with his band went on to become founding members of the Seldom Scene.
