Bean Blossom is a Bill Monroe live double album released on MCA MCA2-8002, recorded at Monroe's Brown County Jamboree in Bean Blossom, Indiana — a festival he had operated since purchasing the grounds in 1951 and one of the most important gathering points for bluegrass music in the genre's history. The original recording, made in 1963, captures Monroe and an ensemble that included Benny Martin on fiddle and other significant collaborators in the relaxed, joyful atmosphere of a homecoming festival performance. Monroe founded what became the first bluegrass festival, and Bean Blossom embodied his vision of bluegrass as a communal, celebratory music equally at home at an outdoor summer gathering as in a concert hall. The live album documents the man who invented the genre performing it in his own natural habitat.
