Don Reno, Bill Harrell and the Tennessee Cut-Ups

Album · 1967 · Rural Rhythm RRDR 171

Rural Rhythm Presents Don Reno & Bill Harrell with the Tennessee Cut-Ups came out on Rural Rhythm (RRDR 171) in May 1967. Most of its twenty tracks were recorded in February 1967 with a four-piece band: Don Reno on banjo (and on guitar for many tracks), Bill Harrell on guitar, Ronnie Reno on mandolin and George Shuffler on bass.

Harrell sings lead and Reno tenor on “White House Blues,” “When the Roses Bloom Again” and “Worried Man Blues,” while Ronnie Reno takes the lead vocal on “Nine Pound Hammer.” Four tracks are instrumentals: “Under the Double Eagle,” which opens the record, “I Don’t Love Nobody,” “Limehouse Blues” and “Dill Pickle Rag.” Two of the songs are credited to Bill Monroe, “Footprints in the Snow” and “Molly and Tenbrooks,” and the rest of the program includes “The Great Speckled Bird,” “Keep on the Sunny Side,” “Poor Ellen Smith” and “Gotta Travel On.”
