Going Back to the Blue Ridge Mountains, released by Folkways in 1973 as Volume 4 of the Country Gentlemen's Folkways series, gathers live recordings made at a series of 1964 dates by the band's almost-classic lineup — Charlie Waller on guitar and lead, John Duffey on mandolin and tenor, Eddie Adcock on banjo, and Ed Ferris on bass (filling the chair Tom Gray had only just vacated). The program runs across the band's mid-1960s repertoire, mixing traditional bluegrass and country selections with the folk-revival material the Gentlemen had begun building into the act, all delivered with the loose energy of a working stage band rather than the discipline of a studio session.
