Wilma Lee & Stoney Cooper Sing was released by Decca in November 1966 (DL 4784 in mono, DL 74784 in stereo). Its twelve songs come from three sessions at the Columbia Recording Studio at 804 16th Avenue South in Nashville: 7 December 1965, 5 April 1966 and one in the summer of 1966, the last of them produced by Owen Bradley.

Wilma Lee sings lead and plays rhythm guitar, and Stoney plays fiddle and sings. Around them is a Nashville studio band: the guitarists Ray Edenton, Joe Edwards, Harold Bradley, Grady Martin, Jerry Shook and Wayne Moss in varying combinations, Hargus “Pig” Robbins on piano, Charlie McCoy on organ and harmonica, Joe Zinkan on bass, and Buddy Harman or Willie Ackerman on drums. L. E. White, Hugh Stoker and Ray Walker sing backing vocals on most tracks. Wilma Lee sings “Almost Persuaded,” by Glen Sutton and Billy Sherrill, alone.

The album also includes Don Gibson’s “It’s Started Again,” Bill Anderson’s “Nobody but a Fool (Would Love You),” Buddy Starcher’s “History Repeats Itself” and Claude Boone’s “Wedding Bells.” Six tracks had already appeared on Decca singles: “It’s Started Again” with “Wedding Bells” in January 1966, “Each Season Changes You” with “It’s Easier to Say Than Do” in June, and “Three Widows” with “A Hero’s Death” in October. “Don’t Let Your Sweet Love Die (Like Flowers in the Fall),” recorded at the final session, closes the album.
