The Traveler and Other Favorites

The Country Gentlemen

Album · 1968 · Rebel SLP 1481

The Traveler and Other Favorites was released by Rebel in 1968 as SLP 1481. BGD lists the same line-up on every track: Charlie Waller on guitar, John Duffey on mandolin, Eddie Adcock on banjo and Ed Ferris on bass. Waller is credited with the lead vocal on most of the songs, with Duffey on tenor or lead, Adcock on baritone and Ferris on bass vocal.

Most of the tracks were recorded in January 1968, on the 9th, 10th, 17th and 24th, but “Baby Blue,” credited to Dylan, dates from an earlier session, on 15 June 1966 in Baltimore. Duffey wrote “The Border Incident” and “The Traveler,” he and Adcock share the writing credit on the instrumental “Buffalo Girls,” and “Theme from Exodus” is also an instrumental. The rest of the program includes “Johnny Reb,” “Amelia Earhart,” “Many a Mile” and “Beautiful Life.”
