Tim Austin
Tim Austin is a Virginia-based guitarist, lead singer, and producer who founded the Lonesome River Band in 1982 and led it through its first decade, then built Doobie Shea Records into one of the most influential independent bluegrass labels of the 1990s and early 2000s.
- Founded the Lonesome River Band in 1982 and led it as singer-guitarist until 1995.
- Worked with the Bluegrass Cardinals in the late 1970s, traveling and selling merchandise before launching his own group.
- Founded Doobie Shea Records in 1988, an influential independent bluegrass label based in Ferrum and later Boones Mill, Virginia.
- Built Doobie Shea Studios, where he engineered and produced recordings for Tony Rice, Del McCoury, Dan Tyminski, Marty Raybon, the Bluegrass Cardinals, and others.
- Produced "The Stanley Tradition," Doobie Shea's first critically acclaimed release, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album and an IBMA award.
- Doobie Shea's roster included Dale Ann Bradley, Marty Raybon, Dan Tyminski, the Lonesome River Band, and Mountain Heart.
- Left the Lonesome River Band in 1995 specifically to focus on the label and his studio work.
- Shut down Doobie Shea Records in 2004 and transitioned into engineering for the Grand Ole Opry and touring country shows.
