The Earls of Leicester

Album · 2018 · Rounder 1166100425

Live at the CMA Theater in the Country Music Hall of Fame is the Earls of Leicester’s first live album and their third. It was captured over two nights in February 2018 in the theater of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, for both audio and video, and Rounder released it on 28 September 2018 on CD, vinyl and download.

Jerry Douglas put the band together in 2013 to present the music of Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys to a new generation. Its first album won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album. The players here are Douglas on Dobro, Shawn Camp on guitar and lead vocals in the Flatt role, Charlie Cushman on banjo in the Scruggs role, Johnny Warren on fiddle (his father, Paul Warren, played fiddle in the Foggy Mountain Boys), Barry Bales on bass, and Jeff White on mandolin and tenor vocals.

The program includes “Salty Dog Blues,” “Will You Be Lonesome Too,” “Earl’s Breakdown,” “I’ll Go Stepping Too,” “I’m Gonna Sleep with One Eye Open,” “Rollin’ in My Sweet Baby’s Arms,” “Flint Hill Special,” the “Martha White Theme Song,” “White House Blues” and “Foggy Mountain Breakdown,” along with a track of band introductions.
