Fred Travers
Fred Travers is a Maryland-born dobroist and lead singer who has anchored The Seldom Scene since 1995 — a Mike Auldridge protege who learned directly from his predecessor in the band, and balanced the chair for years with a career as a Maryland firefighter.
- From Huntingtown, Maryland, in the Washington, D.C. region.
- Learned dobro/resophonic guitar directly from Mike Auldridge (his eventual predecessor in The Seldom Scene); a dobro lesson with Auldridge was a gift from his wife.
- Played with the Gary Ferguson Band and Paul Adkins & The Borderline Band from 1989–1995.
- Joined The Seldom Scene in 1995, replacing Mike Auldridge; debuted on the 1996 album "Dream Scene."
- Has been a continuous member of The Seldom Scene for roughly three decades, performing both dobro and lead vocals.
- Worked as a professional firefighter in Maryland until retirement, balancing it with his Seldom Scene career.
- Considered one of the top dobro players in contemporary bluegrass.
