Johnny Cash was an Arkansas-born singer, guitarist, and songwriter whose Carter Family marriage, lifetime of old-time and folk repertoire, and Highwaymen / "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" / "American Recordings" projects placed him at the center of country music's connection to bluegrass and Appalachian tradition for half a century.
