Roger Bush

Roger Bush is a California-born bassist whose seat in the Country Boys / Kentucky Colonels and his Country Gazette co-founder role made him a pillar of the West Coast bluegrass scene — an inductee into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Kentucky Colonels.
- Born September 16, 1940 in Hollywood, California; raised in El Monte.
- Self-taught on guitar through family country-music get-togethers; co-founded the Green Mountain Boys with brother Sherman after high school.
- Joined the Country Boys in 1960; switched to upright bass in 1961 when their bassist left, taught by Roland White.
- Founding bassist of the Kentucky Colonels (renamed from the Country Boys, 1962) through their breakup in 1965/66.
- Co-founded Country Gazette in 1971 with Byron Berline and Kenny Wertz; the group also backed the Flying Burrito Brothers in 1971–72.
- Stayed with Country Gazette through 1977; reunions in 1980 and 1985.
- Also worked with Doug Dillard's Expedition and the post-Colonels group Trio with Clarence White.
- Inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Kentucky Colonels in 2019.
